Getting rid of “Fifty Shades of Blue” in Pie Charts

Note: The following workaround is unsupported and should be used at your own risk.

There are a lot of complaints regarding the color code used for pie charts. Differentiation of the shades of very dark blue, dark blue and blue is often very tricky. That’s why I would like to share a little ‘hack’ to have a slightly better color code in pie charts.

Special Thanks to Gregor Lukas, Sr. Consultant within VMware.

Simply replace the file /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/tomcat-web-app/webapps/ui/js/components/ChartUtil.js with the one attached.

  1. Upload the attached CharUtil.js using scp or WinSCP to the /tmp/ folder of your vROps appliance
  2. Login to vROps using SSH and backup the old ChartUtil.js:
    mv /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/tomcat-web-app/webapps/ui/js/components/ChartUtil.js /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/tomcat-web-app/webapps/ui/js/components/ChartUtil.js.bak
  3. Copy the new ChartUtil.js to the correct location:
    mv /tmp/ChartUtil.js /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/tomcat-web-app/webapps/ui/js/components/ChartUtil.js
